These tribal narratives can help students understand how places are named, the importance of names given to place, and how the loss of place can also mean losing critical parts of one's identity, of one's individual and cultural connections to a past, present, and future sense of place. When listening, consider how each tribal member's experience of place is imbedded in historical and current relationships to the landscape.
